The New York Rangers have fallen further and further as of late, and now legend Mark Messier has revealed the biggest issue with the current core group.

Since the New York Rangers leaked they were interested in trading either Chris Kreider or Jacob Trouba, the organization's downfall has only gotten worse and worse.

They've since moved on from Trouba and young forward Kaapo Kakko, but things haven't gotten any better, with the team now sitting in last place in the tight Metropolitan Division.

Their biggest issue is an easy one to point out for Rangers legend Mark Messier, who pointed out there was a disconnect between the core players and the organization, noting that everything appeared to be fractured at this point.

"I think right now the core of the Rangers is fractured right now. I don't think they are fractured internally but I think there's a disconnect between management and the coaching staff, there's a lack of trust and loyalty now, and in order to get over that it's going to take a lot of work."

Of course that can be repaired, but going back to the way they handled the move of Barclay Goodrow, the team simply hasn't been happy with GM Chris Drury, and now it appears that they've given up on everything.

Despite coming into the season as Stanley Cup contenders, Messier put it plain and simple when he was asked if this team could be a threat in 2024/25 after their recent run.

"They don't look like a championship team right now."

Ultimately, the talent is still there in New York, but the way things have been going, it's clear that they aren't a great team at this point in time, and unless they make a blockbuster deal to shake things up, it's only going to get worse from here.
