In tragic news, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today that player Jordan Whitehead was involved in a serious car accident.

Jordan Whitehead, a 5-foot-10 safety for the Buccaneers was involved in a car accident earlier today while headed to the team practice facility.

Due to injuries sustained in the accident, he will be unable to play against the New Orleans Saints tonight:

"Jordan Whitehead was involved in an auto accident this morning on his way to our practice facility," the statement reads. "Due to injuries sustained in the accident, he will not play in Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints and has been laced on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury (NFI) list."

NFL analyst Mike Garofolo added that the injuries sustained were serious:

Awful news on Buccaneers Jordan Whitehead, who had worked his way back from a pectoral injury. Now dealing with more serious injuries following a car accident.

The 2018 fourth round pick has had a relatively strong season, and had recently recovered from a pectoral injury, making this setback even more heartbreaking for him.

Whitehead has 79 tackles, two tackles for loss and one quarterback hit in 12 games. He missed four games previously due to a pectoral injury and was expecting to return to play against New Orleans.

We here at Markerzone send our best wishes to the Whiteheads in this difficult time.
