Things aren't calming down one bit regarding the J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson situation in Vancouver, and Elliotte Friedman has revealed that it's worse than ever.

Trade rumors surrounding Vancouver Canucks centers Elias Pettersson and JT Miller have picked up steam after reports of a potential rift between the two. Both players denied any issues, but speculation persists.

The other day on '32 Thoughts: The Podcast', Elliotte Friedman spoke to the rumblings.

"There are some people that really tried to make it work and right now it doesn't look like it's going to work."

- Elliotte Friedman

Elliotte Friedman referred to an interview done by Iain MacIntyre with Canucks GM Patrik Allvin, and how Patrik Allvin didn't shoot down the idea of moving Elias Pettersson.

Friedman thinks the Canucks have checked into trading both players but perhaps wish to retain them. He mentioned three possibilities: keeping both, trading one, or trading both.

Adam Proteau from 'The Hockey News' says if there's tension, the Canucks should trade JT Miller out. Pettersson is younger, hasn't reached his peak, and his contract is longer.

But, of course, Miller's no-movement clause means his destinations are limited. Friedman speculated that he'd prefer an American team. The New York Rangers have been one of the teams connected to Miller.

Rick Dhaliwal of CHEK-TV said the two teams have had discussions, and Vancouver has an interest in Alexis Lafreniere and K'Andre Miller.

Friedman doesn't think a deal including Rangers star Mika Zibanejad would go through because of Mika Zibanejad's no-movement clause.

Friedman also threw out the Chicago Blackhawks as a destination for Miller but he may not be interested in going to a rebuild. Likewise, a Pettersson move to a rebuilding team like the Ducks doesn't seem terribly likely.

Patrick Present of 'The Hockey News' mentioned a Pettersson trade as one that could be as big as Erik Karlsson's move to San Jose.

Meanwhile, Stefen Rosner projected that the New York Islanders might go for Pettersson to reunite him with Bo Horvat, but it would have to be a big package.

Finally, Adam Kierszenblat said that while publicly denied, the trade buzz won't stop unless both players go out of their way to squash the rumors.
