650-Game NHL Journeyman Alex Chiasson Unexpectedly Calls it a Career

Alex Chiasson carved out a solid career for himself in the NHL, and after 651 games, he's officially called it quits on his hockey career after not appearing in the league since 2022/23.

Back in 2009, the Dallas Stars spent a second-round draft pick on a promising young winger out of Boston University in Montreal native, 6-foot-4 winger Alex Chiasson.

While he would only play two seasons with the team before moving on, he had a solid run in that time, establishing himself as a solid NHLer that would ultimately go on to play for seven teams throughout his NHL career.

After Dallas, Chiasson would play for Ottawa, Calgary, Washington, Edmonton, Vancouver and ultimately Detroit, for whom he would come out of retirement for a season back in 2022/23.

Despite flashing potential during that return, posting 6 goals and 9 points in 20 games played, he has yet to get another shot at the NHL level, and now the 34-year old has officially hung up his skates, once and for all.

The biggest highlight of Chiasson's career came back in 2018 when he played in 61 regular season games for the Washington Capitals, capping it off with their incredible Stanley Cup victory.

While he would never go on to be a star in the league, Chiasson was productive wherever he went, eventually playing in 651 games in the NHL, tallying 120 goals and 233 points in that stretch, retiring after a very solid career.

It's unclear where he goes from here, as Chiasson certainly has a mind for hockey that could lend itself to becoming a coach or an executive somewhere in the sport, but for now, we congratulate him on a solid run over 11 years in the league.
