A scary scene unfolded in Los Angeles after Kings defenseman Joel Edmundson's jump to catch a puck landed him on his neck.

The Los Angeles Kings were set to play a home game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday evening, both teams hoping to close gaps within their division.

However, some of the night's events went anything but smoothly, after a risky jump led to an even riskier landing.

Los Angeles Kings defenseman Joel Edmundson took a chance during the game to cath a puck out of the air, having to jump to about knee-height.

However, while Edmundson was airborne, Tampa Bay Lightning forward Zemgus Girgensons collided with him at a high speed.

This hit caused Edmundson to flip over, landing very awkwardly on his neck, resulting in his near-immediate move to the locker room.

"He's off the ground, and it was nasty the way it came down, no doubt... That's bad, he's going right to the locker room."

Despite the force and frightening nature of the hit, however, an official review determined that Girgensons did not have reckless intentions in the matter and did not face any immediate discipline.

"Right there he's talking it over with Girgensons on whether or not there was any type of reckless intent... From that look right there, it looks like Girgensons doesn't really know where Edmundson is."

Though Los Angeles did lose a defenseman at that point in the game, they won 1-2 in regulation.

Though there are no further updates on his condition, hopefully, Edmundson will be cleared to play in their next game, scheduled for Wednesday, January 8th, against the Calgary Flames.
