The Chicago Blackhawks 2021 #32nd overall draft selection - defenseman Nolan Allan - was traded today from the Prince Albert Raiders to the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League. The deal saw Allan, along with Reese Shaw (2024 draft eligible), traded in exchange for a massive return.

FULL TRADE
to Prince Albert:
- Gabe Ludwig, F
- Braydon Dube, F
- Easton Kovacs, D
- 2023 1st round pick (Kelowna)
- 2024 1st round pick
- 2024 3rd round pick
- 2025 6th round pick
- 2026 2nd round pick
- 2026 6th round pick
to Seattle:
- Nolan Allan, D
- Reese Shaw, F
Prince Albert is going to need a U-Haul and a customs check to get this return over the border. Six draft picks and three players in exchange for a pair of players is about as solid a return as one could seek.
So far this season, Allan has managed 11 points in 16 games with a -5 rating. In 162 total WHL games, the blue-liner has 63 points and 127 PIMs. The final pick in the 2021 draft, Allan's game has improved immensely and his development has to leave the Blackhawks' management happy enough in the meantime.
As for Shaw, the 17-year old scored 43 points in 27 games for Gentry Academy of the Minnesota High School league. In one NAHL game this season, he has an assist.
Allan and Shaw join a Thunderbirds organization poised for a big season. Through the team's first 16 games, Seattle boasts a 12-3-1 record with a +28 goal differential. Currently 2nd in the U.S. Division of the WHL, the Thunderbirds add a stud defenseman and a budding prospect for the low-low price of nine unique assets.
After this trade, they ought to be considered serious players in the CHL's Memorial Cup in May.
