After signing with the Boston Bruins as a free agent, defenceman Nikita Zadorov says negotiations on a new contract with the Vancouver Canucks felt disrespectful

Hulking defenceman Nikita Zadorov has never been one to pull punches when there's something on his mind, and in a recent interview he opened up on contract negotiations with the Vancouver Canucks at the end of the 2023-24 season. Zadorov says he felt disrespected in those contract negotiations.

While appearing on the What Chaos! podcast with Pete Blackburn and DJ Bean, Nikita Zadorov said he firmly believed he would be signing a new contract with the Vancouver Canucks, and wasn't really happy with the way things went down there.

"Yeah," responded Zadorov when asked if he thought he was going to re-sign in Vancouver.

"We wanted to stay at the startwe tried to sort it out but there's points in negotiations when you check boxes and then couple things didn't go the way we wanted to. Kind of felt a little bit disrespectful too. It didn't work out."

It all worked out for the 29 year old as Nikita Zadorov signed a six year deal with the Boston Bruins worth $30 million as soon as free agency opened on July 1. The Vancouver Canucks had reportedly offered him $5 million per season, but with far less term, something he wasn't interested in.

Nikita Zadorov also admitted that he and teammate Elias Lindholm discussed signing with Boston when the Canucks played the Bruins last season. Lindholm is also now a member of the Boston Bruins after signing a seven-year, $54.25 million deal with the team on the same day that Zadorov signed.
