The Columbus Blue Jackets have lost promising forward Dmitri Voronkov to injury this off-season, and now it appears the captain will be out for a long time as well.

This off-season has been tough on the Columbus Blue Jackets for many heartbreaking reasons, and heading into the season, they have struggled to put a lineup together. Recently, reports emerged that captain Boone Jenner had suffered an injury that will keep him out for a 'long time', and now we have confirmation of that injury.

According to Aaron Portzline of The Athletic, the Blue Jackets will be without their captain for a significant stretch to start their season after the 31-year old Ontario native underwent shoulder surgery. The announcement from Columbus didn't give an exact timeline, but General Manager Don Waddell did offer this tough statement to end the announcement.

« our hope is he can return before the end of the season.»

Recently, the team did get a massive upgrade when they landed Kevin Lebanc to a one-year deal and James Van Riemsdyk, as well as claiming veteran Zach Aston-Reese, but given the injury to Dmitri Voronkov, it's fair to say that their two injury losses far outweigh their additions. This was already going to be a tough year for Columbus, who are still grieving the loss of their biggest star, and with the team full of young, up-and-coming players, there was always going to be some bumps in the road.

Now they are without their captain for potentially the whole season, and given the depth of talent and star power in the Metropolitan Division and the Eastern Conference, it's safe to say that this team may be the favourite to land the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
