Things have been pretty quiet on the goalie front in The Big Apple with not a lot of news to share on the New York Rangers and their plans for RFA and number one goaltender Igor Shesterkin.

Shesterkin, 25, has come off of a bit of a down year, dealing with injury and inconsistencies and has been somewhat critical of himself this offseason, stating to the media this summer that he believes he has a lot more to give.

After rumours had surfaced - and were later refuted - that backup goalie Alexandar Georgiev had requested a trade out of New York, we finally have some news to share on the Shesterkin front.

According to USA Today's Vince Z. Mercogliano, the Rangers and Shesterkin are believed to be making progress on a new deal that could pay the Russian netminder as much as $6M per season.

Shesterkin and his camp had an opportunity to file for salary arbitration this past week, and the fact that they did not elect to go that route is a pretty promising indicator that the two sides will come to terms on what is likely to be a longer-term deal.
