The Boston Bruins season has been a whirlwind thus far, but in their latest game, fans called for the end of the Don Sweeney era in emphatic fashion.

After seemingly turning things around following a slow start, things are dipping again in Boston, with the team dropping their fifth straight game on Tuesday night with a 4-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers.

Unfortunately, it appears as though Bruins fans have had enough, as several loud reactions showed them loudly announcing their displeasure with the team, including a 'Fire Don Sweeney' chant that broke out during the game.

That has led to calls from several journalists and fans for the Bruins to end the decade-long run of Sweeney as the teams General Manager.

The #NHLBruins suffered a 5th defeat in a row. The Joe Sacco effect seemed to have faded. The fans chanted: "Fire Sweeney".

After nearly 10 years of reign, it's clear that Don Sweeney has had his day.

Not long after the defeat, the hosts of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast were discussing the situation, and at this point it's not looking very good for Sweeney, as he's struggled to produce a winner in Boston, with this current team looking a shell of what we've seen in recent years.

The 4-0 defeat to Edmonton saw the team exit the ice to a chorus of boos at the TD Garden, which all around isn't a good look for one of the league's most historic and important franchises.

Ultimately, the team are still in position to make a run at the Stanley Cup Playoffs, so there's a good chance that this reaction changes absolutely nothing in Boston if they can turn things around, but with this team and city expecting a winner, this may just be what they needed to make sweeping changes.
