Albin Sundsvik of the SHL's Rogle BK is talking about his experience after needing several stitches to close a cut on his face from an opponent's skate

A very scary scene in Sweden's top-tier hockey league, the SHL, after Rogle BK's Albin Sundsvik took a skate to the face that required several stitches.

The skate in question belonged to Brynas's Anton Rödin, who tripped over a stick in front of Rogle's net and caught Albin Sundsvik in the cheek.

Sundsvik, a 6th round draft pick of the Anaheim Ducks in 2020, immediately went down on the ice. It took a while for the officials to blow the whistle to stop the play.

According to Rogle BK, Sundsvik was taken to hospital immediately after leaving the ice. Sundsvik himself said the cut was quite deep.

"Bl**d started coming out pretty much right away. Then I put my hands against it. I felt that it was on the cheek but that the wound was quite deep. But also that it was not against the eyes or the mouth and that it was not on the neck. It went pretty fast."

As for having to wait so long for the officials to blow the whistle, Sundsvik said he's not sure why that happened.

"I don't really know what happened, it is what it is. Maybe they didn't see the bl**d or thought I got a stick in the face. It's scary - if it had been a few centimeters in any other place, it would have been important seconds."

Sundsvik, who is Rogle's top scorer, intends to return to the ice immediately with a full visor. He will continue to wear a neck guard, something he encourages other players to do.
