The 2025 World Juniors Tournament was a major flop for Team Canada, but now Kevin Bieksa has defended the team, calling out the online hatred they've received.

For months leading into the 2025 World Juniors tournament in Ottawa, the hype was building in Canada, but unfortunately, mistakes were made in the selection process, with the team leaving off arguably some of their most impressive players.

Unsurprisingly, that led to a disappointing finish, with the team failing to medal for a second straight season as Hockey Canada are now clearly feeling the pressure of immense scrutiny as they clearly need to change something in the evaluation process.

One thing that has potentially gone overboard however is the hatred for the young players involved in the tournament, with players like Easton Cowan receiving plenty of backlash in the days after the teams defeat.

Now, Sportsnet's Kevin Bieksa has called this out, claiming that the online hatred for the young players representing their country is simply too much, with the young players giving it all despite the situation.

"Yeah, but as a country, though, there should be a little bit more support than demanding victory and then when they lose think about all the people that are writing negative things online," Bieska said. "Like, who does that? Who writes a negative thing online about a 16 to 20 year old playing their hearts out trying to win?

You think they want to lose? We should be nothing but support."

Unfortunately, with social media the way it is, this type of thing won't stop happening, but people in Canada should be consistently supporting their team regardless of the circumstances, so while Hockey Canada need to change things, more support from the fan base would go a long way.
