Following some serious time away from the league, top insider Frank Seravalli has linked former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews to three NHL teams.

Jonathan Toews is undoubtedly a well-decorated former NHLer, having played over 1000 games and becoming a three-time Stanley Cup champion.

Having made such an important impact as the Chicago Blackhawks captain, it is no surprise that he received a standing ovation in his last game for the team, April 2023, against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Despite facing numerous health issues at 34 years old, Toews never officially retired from the league, sharing months later he would take some time off to focus on his health in hopes of returning when conditions allow.

"I'd like to announce that I am not fully retiring, but I am taking time away from the game again this season. I cannot deny my love for the game of hockey and still feel the passion for competing at my highest level.

However, these last few seasons have been very difficult considering my health challenges. My focus is to give myself the time and space to fully heal and enjoy life to the fullest once again. Along the way I have met several people who have struggled with health issues pertaining to long COVID, chronic immune response syndrome, and other similar cases that are quite complex.

I now recognize the importance of one day sharing the details of my health journey with you all. Thank you to all of you who have supported me and respected my privacy in the process."

Now, more than a year later, it seems the time for Toews to make an NHL comeback is not only possible, but just around the corner.

Toews recently detailed in an interview with GQ his healing journey in India, which he feels has helped him significantly with the ailments keeping him off the ice.

Now that he has a better grasp of his health, Toews shared that he is doing what he can to get back in the game.

"There's a part of me that really doesn't feel like my career is over yet, and who knows what this next part of the journey looks like, as far as getting back on the ice and trying to make a return to the NHL. There's never any guarantees in life, but I'm going to give it my best shot. I'm going to enjoy every step of the way. As hard as it's been at times, I look back now and I'm pretty thankful for it all. So we'll see what happens."

Not long after the former Chicago forward's announcement, top NHL Insider Frank Seravalli shared on Sports on Prime Canada that Toews is already skating in top playing condition.

"I can tell you at this point Jonathan Toews has indeed resumed skating. He's feeling the best that he has in years. He's also back down to his playing weight."

Moreover, Seravalli has already connected Toews to three teams looking for another forward to boost their depth heading into the second half of this season or the next: the Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets, and Colorado Avalanche.

"I'm told that multiple teams expressed interest in Toews's possible return [...] I'm going to give you three teams to keep an eye on if Jonathan Toews does decide to make a comeback bid. One of them is the Toronto Maple Leafs: a third-line center has been on Brad Treliving's wishlist all season long. The other would be the Winnipeg Jets: the hometown team for Jonathan Toews, and the third would be the Colorado Avalanche in desperate need of another center- three true, legitimate Stanley Cup contenders, all of whom would be interested to see what the three-time Stanley Cup winner and one of the most clutch players of his generation would still have left in the tank."

Toews last played for the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2022-23 season, recording 15 goals and 31 total points in 53 games.

While there is no guarantee when or if Toews will return, should he recreate his last production rate, he could make a solid comeback as a third-line center.
