After failing to take the best roster possible, it came as little surprise to anyone that Team Canada failed to medal at the 2025 World Juniors for the second straight year, losing in dramatic fashion to Czechia on Thursday.
Given that Canada is a world power in the sport of hockey, they've accumulated plenty of hate from opposing countries over the years, and since their defeat, those people have publicly come out and slammed the team.
Now, a current NHLer can be added to that list, as Jakub Lauko of the Minnesota Wild, a Czech native reacted to Canada's defeat on social media, and it's safe to say that fans of Canada weren't too happy about it.
This wasn't Czechia's only big win over Canada in recent years however, as they picked up a massive one at the 2024 tournament, which forced Lauko to go back through his old posts on X to further make fun of Canada's failure in the past few years.
Given that Canada won three gold medals in four years leading into the 2024 tournament, it's no surprise that the heavyweights take this kind of heat, although for Lauko, it's more likely than not simply due to the fact that it was his home country that took them out.
Ultimately though, Hockey Canada now have some massive questions to answer, as the coach and the General Manager have been very dismissive of their failures this year, and if that doesn't change heading into the 2026 tournament in Minneapolis, we could be looking at even more failure.
