Kahun and Oilers star Leon Draisaitl played together for a couple of seasons in the Adler Mannheim youth program, where they combined for whopping 398 points in 30 games during their final year together.
Kahun, 25, was signed by the Chicago Blackhawks in May 2018 as an undrafted free agent. In 138 regular season games, he's put up 68 points (25 G, 43 A), 14 penalty minutes, and is a +18. During his NHL career, he's played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Buffalo Sabres.
He played two seasons of junior hockey with the Sudbury Wolves in the Ontario Hockey League. Following the end of his junior career, Kahun headed back to Germany where he played for EHC Munchen in the DEL. Kahun spent four seasons playing for EHC Munchen, tallying 111 points (39 G, 72 A), 18 penalty minutes, and was a +36 in 157 regular season games. In 49 playoff games, he had 38 points (9 G, 29 A), 6 penalty minutes, and was a +7. He won the DEL championships three years in a row with EHC Munchen before coming back over to North America to pursue a career in the NHL.
Kahun was born in the Czech Republic, but moved to Germany with his family when he was young and represents them on the international stage. He has played for Germany many times throughout his career, most recently at the 2019 IIHF World Hockey Championships. In 8 games, he put up 5 points (1 G, 4 A), 0 penalty minutes, and was a -1 as Germany finished sixth following a loss to the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals.
He also represented Germany at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea. In 7 games, Kahun recorded 5 points (2 G, 3 A), 2 penalty minutes, and was a +/-0 as Germany shocked the hockey world by going on a run to the gold medal game, where they ultimately lost to the Olympic Athletes from Russia in overtime. The silver medal at the 2018 Olympics was only the third time Germany has medaled at the Winter Olympics in ice hockey. The other two times were in 1932 and 1976 when they won bronze.
