Trevor Zegras Trade Rumours Heat Up as Central Division Team Looks to Upgrade
The Anaheim Ducks are going to be sellers once again this season, and there is one Central Division team who would like to build for a better future.
Yes, this Central Division team might be all but mathematically eliminated from the playoff race in 2025, but that doesn't mean they should coast to the finish line. In fact, much work is left to do if the team aims to position itself for a better push next season.
GM Kyle Davidson has a very important offseason ahead of him, with significant cap space available to him, even considering the future extensions of players like Connor Bedard.
The Chicago Blackhawks are eyeing impactful players
While developing the youth is important, the Blackhawks can't just live off of prospects; they need impactful additions.
It means that veteran signings from last offseason have hardly moved the needle, so difference-makers must be the priority this time around. One player connected to Chicago is Trevor Zegras.
The Fourth Period reported he could be on the move ahead of the deadline, and the Blackhawks will benefit from his addition the sooner the better as chemistry will take time to develop.
Trades for players with term are normally off-season deals, but with both Chicago and Anaheim out of the playoff picture and having some cap flexibility, a mid-season deal is conceivable.
Still only 23, Zegras has struggled through injuries and a coaching system that doesn't complement his play style.
However, back-to-back 23-goal, 60+ point seasons prove his potential if given the right opportunity to be a dynamic addition to the Chicago rebuild.
There are a few teams in play, but Chicago needs to get aggressive here. The Blackhawks wouldn't be forced to wait on prospect development to assume top-six roles because adding Zegras accelerates that timeline.
