Carolina Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell announced today that the team has re-signed forward Warren Foegele to a one-year contract worth $2.15 millions. Foegele, who was a restricted free agent, was set to have an arbitration hearing on Wednesday.

"Warren has shown improvement each year of his professional career. We expect him to continue to develop and enhance his role on our team", Waddell said following the signing.

Foegele, 24, was drafted in the third round, 67th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2014 NHL entry draft. In 147 regular season games, he's put up 48 points (25 G, 23 A), 54 penalty minutes, and is a -5. In 23 career playoff games, Foegele has recorded 10 points (6 G, 4 A), 8 penalty minutes, and is a +5.

He had a career year during the 2019-20 season. In 68 games, he had 30 points (13 G, 17 A), 34 penalty minutes, and was a +9.

Prior to joining the Hurricanes organization, he had a season in the NCAA with the University of New Hampshire, before leaving to play with the Kingston Frontenacs in the Ontario Hockey League, where he spent a season and half before being traded to the Erie Otters.

In 113 regular season games in the OHL, Foegele had 111 points (40 G, 71 A), 84 penalty minutes, and was a +58. In 31 playoff games, he had 36 points (21 G, 15 A), 37 penalty minutes, and was a +21. He won the OHL championship with the Erie Otters during the 2016-17 season, and won the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as OHL playoff MVP.

With winning the OHL championship, Foegele and the Otters advanced to the 2017 Memorial Cup where he had a phenomenal run. In 5 games, he put up 7 points (2 G, 5 A), 2 penalty minutes, and was a +1 as Erie lost to the host Windsor Spitfires in the championship game.
