The Canucks center depth will be tested for the remainder of this season now that JT Miller has been reunited with the New York Rangers.
The Canucks did get centerman Filip Chytil back in that trade, but he is certainly a major downgrade for the second-line center position.
As a result, the team could very well be looking into upgrading down the middle before the March 7th trade deadline, especially if the team is still hoping to make the playoffs this year.
Now, one potential fit has emerged in trade rumors. The Ottawa Senators are reportedly shopping 25-year-old center Josh Norris and the Canucks are interested according to the Hockey News reporter Adam Kierszenblat.
Norris is dealing with an undisclosed injury at the moment as is listed as week-to-week by the team, which could potentially complicate a deal, especially if he is not ready to return to game action before March 7th.
The 25-year-old has 19 goals and 31 points through 50 games this season. He had four goals and six points in his last six games prior to the injury.
He is also good friends with Canucks captain Quinn Hughes, which could potentially be a factor both at the negotiating table and in the locker room should the Canucks actually acquire the center.
One Canucks fan suggested moving Brock Boeser as part of a deal to bring in Norris which could make sense both from a positioning standpoint and from an asset management perspective.
Boeser is in the final year of his deal while Norris is locked up for several more, which would give the Canucks some roster certainty with their core moving forward.
Regardless, it seems like the Canucks are not done making moves this season, so be sure to keep an eye on Vancouver for the next few weeks as the trade deadline approaches.
