Hockey players are often noted for giving fairly low-key interviews. The sport is filled with cliches that you'll hear over and over when players are talking to reporters. However, Phillip Danault of the LA Kings was recently speaking with Arpon Basu of The Athletic, and strayed quite a bit from the usual hockey talk, perhaps even giving away a bit too much information.

Danault was, of course, a member of the Montreal Canadiens last season during the team's unlikely run to the Stanley Cup Final. His wife is currently pregnant with the couple's second child, and he told Basu he had wanted to wait until his next contract was in place before having another. Apparently, he and his wife couldn't wait any longer.

"Phillip Danault and his wife are expecting a little girl. They wanted to wait for his next contract to have a second child, just to be settled, knowing it wouldn't be in Montreal," said Basu. "He said the child was conceived on June 24th, the night of Game 6 against Vegas. Seriously."

"Danault, after signing with L.A., had previously called that game against Vegas his best memory in a Canadiens uniform," Basu continued. "We all thought it was because it was on St-Jean and he set up the OT winner by Artturi Lehkonen. Now we know the real reason, I guess."

I appreciate Denault's openness, but not sure anyone other than he and his wife needed to know the exact date his child was conceived. In any case, that would have been the night the Canadiens eliminated the Vegas Golden Knights to move on to the Stanley Cup Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning. I guess he was in a good mood, and why not? For a lot of players, getting to the SCF is a once in a lifetime opportunity, never mind actually lifting the Cup.

Montreal will take on LA on Saturday for the first time since Danault signed with the Kings as a free agent during the offseason.
