It appears the Stanley Cup will no longer bear the name of convicted sex offender Brad Aldrich. Chicago Blackhawks owner Rocky Wirtz wrote a letter to the Hockey Hall of Fame asking that Aldrich's name be removed from the team's spot for the 2010 Cup win, and it looks like that request will be honoured.

"HHOF Chair, Lanny McDonald spoke with NHL's [Gary] Bettman & [Bill] Daly today re: the request from the Blackhawks to have Aldrich's name removed from the Cup. The parties agree this request is appropriate & will have further dialogue, including with Cup trustees, on how best to effectuate this request," said HHoF media relations director Kelly Masse on Twitter.

Aldrich is accused of sexually assaulting Kyle Beach while the two were with the Blackhawks in 2010. Beach was a rookie waiting to get his chance in the NHL, while Aldrich was a video coach. After leaving the Blackhawks, Aldrich was convicted of sexually assaulting a high school hockey player in Michigan.

Since an independent investigation into the 2010 allegations, Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman and Senior Vice-President Al MacIsaac have resigned. JOel Quenneville, who was coach in Chicago in 2010, has resigned from his position as bench boss with Florida.
