Phillip Danault posts heartfelt goodbye to Montreal fans on Instagram

On Wednesday, former Montreal Canadiens centerman Phillip Danault signed a six-year contract worth $33 million dollars ($5.5 million AAV). The Victoriaville, Quebec native took to Instagram on Thursday to say goodbye and thank you to the Habs organization, his teammates, and the fans.

"It's really hard to explain how proud I am for playing at the bell Center for the last 5 years..I am so thankful for everything! Big thank you to Geoff for taking care of all of us. My teammates been unreal to me last five years, we've been through everything and could not wish for a better group, thanks boys for all the good memories!! Thank you to the coaching staff all around, Marc as well for believing in me. And obviously, a huge thank you to all the Montreal Canadiens fans, your energy and your passion that you bring to the city and the game is unbelievable! Thank you for cheering for us every night! A very special thank you to my wife Marie and my little boy for supporting me every second of my life, they are everything to me❤️ To wear Montreal Canadiens uniform as been an honour, Thank you!!!!" Danault said.

He went on to add that he's excited to play for the Kings. "It is now time for a new chapter for my family and I! Could not be more excited for the new challenge and spend the next 6 years of our life with the @lakings I will wear that jersey with pride everynight!! #let's go"

Danault, 28, spent five and a half seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, and quickly established himself as one of the best defensive forwards in the entire National Hockey League. In 360 regular season games with Montreal, he had 194 points (54 G, 140 A), 172 penalty minutes and was a +47. He was also above 50% in the faceoff circle in every year with the Canadiens, and even had 882 faceoff wins during the 2018-19 season.

Danault's former line-mate Brendan Gallagher also took to Instagram to say goodbye to his centerman.

"Cheers boys 🍻 it was an absolute pleasure the last 3 years together. Loved every shift! To Phil, your welcome for teaching you the English language. I can confidently say your ready to walk to streets of LA and almost fit in. Just maybe don't wear your jorts," Gallagher said.

Los Angeles is getting a good one. Best of luck with the Kings, Phillip.
