Dangerous Weather Conditions Force NBA to Postpone Game Between Rockets and Hawks
The NBA has had to make the unfortunate decision to postpone the basketball game today between the Houston Rockets and the Atlanta Hawks.
A winter storm has battered Atlanta, forcing the NBA to postpone Saturday's game between the Houston Rockets and Atlanta Hawks.
With roads glazed over in ice and more than 110,000 customers without power, the league has decided safety comes before gameplay.
The NBA makes the postponement announcement
The NBA made the following announcement, citing the severe weather and hazardous icy conditions gripping the Atlanta area.
The Rockets had already landed in Atlanta before the decision was made, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the storm's impact.
Friday's snowfall and ice had turned the city into a treacherous landscape, with refreezing expected to worsen conditions by Saturday night.
Adding to the storm's count of ills, tumbling trees fell onto power lines, casting thousands into darkness and further complicating recovery.
To date, no replacement date for the game has been announced by the NBA while the city awaits, still in struggles over the aftermath of the storm.
On Friday, four passengers were injured after a Delta Air Lines jet bound for Minneapolis had to abandon its takeoff. Delta spokesperson Morgan Durrant said the plane experienced an unfortunate engine problem.
While the issue happened during the snowstorm that caused massive cancellations and delays in the city of Atlanta, home of the world's busiest airport, officials couldn't say if the problem was indeed related to the weather.
