Lightning sign Brayden Point to long-term extension

The Tampa Bay Lightning have locked up centerman Brayden Point to an eight-year contract. It carries an average annual value of $9.5 million.

Point, 25, was drafted by the Lightning back in 2014, and has played a huge role in their back-to-back Stanley Cup championships. In 56 games this season, the Calgary, Alberta native had 48 points (23 G, 25 A), 11 penalty minutes, and was a +2. Point added 23 points (14 G, 9 A) in 23 games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
