Nashville Predators' Zachary L'Heureux Suspended by the NHL Department of Player Safety
The NHL called for a hearing for Nashville Zachary L'Heureux after a slew-foot on Minnesota's Jared Spurgeon, and now he's learned how long he will be suspended for.
During their New Years Eve clash with the Minnesota Wild, Nashville's Zachary L'Heureux slew footed captain Jared Spurgeon in a brutal, unnecessary play that has caused Spurgeon to need an MRI.
Unsurprisingly, a player that's already building a reputation around the league was then called for a hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety, with the likelihood being that he would receive his first NHL suspension.
That was confirmed on Thursday, with the DoPS revealing on social media that he has accepted a three-game ban for the play, which appears to be fair given how much danger he put the captain in.
Surprisingly though, reactions were mixed in the comments, with some believing it was a little much while others expected a much longer suspension given how unnecessary and dangerous the play ultimately was.
In 33 games with Nashville this season, the rookie has posted a solid 9 points, but with 32 penalty minutes and a -7 differential, if he doesn't reign it in soon he could become a major headache for this team.
During his three seasons in the QMJHL with the Halifax Mooseheads, L'Heureux was suspended an incredible nine times for fighting and dirty play, and while he's had just two in the AHL since, it shows a history of this type of play.
Hopefully the veterans in the Predators locker room can smarten him up, as there's a major different between hard, physical play and dirty moves that put their opponents in danger of serious injury, and with a three-game suspension on top of that, hopefully he will learn his lesson moving forward.
