Igor Shesterkin recently inked the most expensive goalie contract in NHL history, and now he's been pulled just days later after an embarrassing effort against LA.

The New York Rangers season has been shaken up in recent times with trade speculation and the move of Jacob Trouba, and now it appears that things keep on getting worse.

Early on Saturday, the Rangers matched up with the Los Angeles Kings, and despite having consistency from Igor Shesterkin all season long, he put together his worst start of the season.

After facing just 21 shots, Shesterkin was pulled from the game after allowing 5 goals, seeing New York go down 5-0 at the end of two periods, as they ultimately went on to lose a crucial matchup 5-1.

The worst of it all came just before he was pulled, as the Rangers let in three goals in just 2:18 of game time, with the fans at Madison Square Garden soundly booing the team off the ice at the end of the defeat.

This comes just days after Shesterkin inked the biggest contract in NHL history for a goaltender, surpassing the number set by Montreal's Carey Price, which certainly isn't the way New York and their fans would have expected him to react after such a deal.

Unfortunately, things may get worse in New York before they get better, with the team having just three wins in their last 10 games played, and with Chris Kreider on the trade block still, they may need a huge change in the near future.

For now though, the team have slumped to fifth place in the Metropolitan Division, and unless they can turn things around quickly, not even Shesterkin's usual brilliance could save them, so expect a massive shakeup soon as they continue their pursuit of their first Stanley Cup in 30 years.
