The QMJHL has been verging on a major move for quite some time, and now the league has officially agreed to relocate the Acadie Bathurst Titan.

For quite some time now, the QMJHL moving a team to St. Johns in Newfoundland has been a hot rumour, and on Monday it was officially confirmed.

First reported by Stephane Leroux of RDS, the league has made it official that as of 2025/26, the Acadie Bathurst Titan will be relocating to Newfoundland, with many more details to come out in the near future.

While Leroux hasn't reported an official number, the sale is believed to be around the $5.5 million mark, with QMJHL hockey headed back to The Rock for the first time since the St. John's Fog Devils back in 2008.

When Acadie Bathurst Titan moved from Laval to New Brunswick, they kept the logo and their branding, but at this stage, it's uncertain what the plan is for the Newfoundland based club.

According to Leroux, the move makes scheduling very difficult, with the league already figuring that out, as it's expected to pan out like this;

Maritime based teams will fly into Newfoundland twice for double-headers and the Quebec-based teams will fly in once every two seasons. As for St. John's, they'll have eight to 10 long road stretches per season, to minimize travel costs.

Obviously this is going to be a major shakeup for the QMJHL, but at this point in time, the Acadie Bathurst Titan simply didn't have the backing and the financial means to continue on in the way things were going, making this move the smart one.

The new team is expected to debut for the 2025/26 season, making it an incredibly quick turnaround, and while there's plenty to figure out with branding, rosters and much, much more, this is a very exciting move for Newfoundland and the QMJHL.
