NHL insider Chris Johnston denied a report today that he claimed Dylan Larkin requested a trade away from the Detroit Red Wings.

A random TSN radio host by the name of Sash Sharnaz made a false claim this afternoon that he had spoken with Johnston, who was supposedly set to join his show.

He claimed that the Red Wings Captain had requested a trade from the team, information that he reportedly got from Johnston himself.

Insiders like Johnston typically do not respond or otherwise give attention to obvious trolls online, but this instance proved to be important enough that he felt compelled to.

As such, the insider directly posted to his X page, stating making it clear that he has never spoken with the guy who posted the rumor, and that Larkin has not requested a trade.

One would think that this wouldn't even need to be said.

There is absolutely no way Larkin would request a trade just a year and a quarter after signing an eight-year extension.

Whether the team goes down or not, Larkin is with them for the long haul.

Even before Johnston denied this claim, Red Wings fans themselves called it out as fake, with many lamenting the fact that people actually believe this kind of stuff.

Now that that is all cleared up, Red Wings fans can breath a big sigh of relief. Your captain isn't going anywhere.

Unfortunately though, this doesn't do anything to help the team, it just means they aren't about to get even worse.

The first quarter of the season has gone horribly in Detroit, putting them among the teams with a chance for the 1st overall pick in the upcoming draft.

The team was not intending to start a rebuild though so winning the draft lottery would not exactly be the best thing that could have happened to the team this season.

They last made the playoffs in 2016, and that is starting to feel like a rather distant memory.

Hopefully they will be able turn things around soon, with Larkin as part of the solution.
