Australian World champion and Olympic medal cyclist Rohan Dennis is facing prison time tonight after he pleaded guilty to a crime related to the death of his wife.

The famous cyclist was behind the wheel of his car last year as he was in an argument with his wife Melissa Hoskins.

During that argument, Melissa reportedly grabbed onto the hood before he sped off, which resulted in her falling off and later passing away due to her injuries.

According to Fox News, Rohan Dennis faces up to seven years in prison for the lesser crime of creating a likelihood of harm.

"Rohan Dennis, a two-time world champion cyclist and two-time Olympic medalist, is facing up to seven years in prison after he pleaded guilty for his role in the 2023 death of his wife, fellow Australian Olympian Melissa Hoskins, in court on Tuesday. "

Initially, he was charged with much more serious crimes including dangerous driving causing death, and aggravated driving.

Before he agreed to plead guilty to the lesser charge, he was potentially facing a maximum of up to 17 years in prison.

Clearly, this is why he accepted the deal that would put him behind bars for just a maximum of seven years.

He could still get a lesser sentence than that, and could potentially get out early on good behavior as well, further reducing the time he spends behind bars.

This has been a controversial case as many believe that Dennis should face the consequences of the more serious charges initially made against him.

In accordance with Australian law, this decision effectively confirms that he was not responsible for her death, instead placing that responsibility on the victim.

Understandably, not everyone agrees with this decision, especially since she was outside the vehicle during the argument.

That being said, there is nothing anyone can do about it now. We will just have to wait for the sentencing to see how many years Dennis gets.
