Family and hockey fans are mourning the death of David Bonderman, majority co-owner of the Seattle Kraken and a beloved hockey fan

It's a sad day for the NHL and hockey fans as the co-owner of one of the league's teams has sadly passed away.

David Bonderman, the co-founder and co-owner of the NHL's latest expansion team, the Seattle Kraken, the co-founder and co-owner of the NHL latest expansion team, the Seattle Kraken, has died at the age of 82.

David Bonderman was a co-founder of alternative asset management giant TPG in 1992. The company is currently worth in the vicinity of $240 billion.

It was just last week that the NHL marked the six year anniversary of the Bonderman family being awarded the NHL franchise that became the Seattle Kraken.

"I've looked at franchises from time to time, but I haven't been in the right place at the right time until now," Bonderman would say in 2018, by then deep into negotiations to ultimately acquire a Seattle NHL expansion team for $650 million. "I think of it as a personal opportunity, as they say. But it's a different opportunity in some ways than what I've done before. What I do for a living is make investments. And this is a big one."

Bonderman is being remembered as a very shy, but colourful person who loved to get into the middle of what was being done and roll up his sleeves.

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of David Bonderman, as well as current and former members of the Seattle Kraken.
