An update on the recent Jacob Trouba trade says the Anaheim Ducks wanted the New York Rangers to take on a veteran of the NHL, but the Rangers weren't interested

So many things have come to light since the recent trade of Jacob Trouba by the New York rangers to the Anaheim Ducks that NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman may be forced to change the rules regarding exchanges.

A new report states a veteran of more than 900 NHL games was to be included in the trade, but the New York Rangers refused.

In his latest 32 Thoughts podcast, Elliotte Friedman said the Anaheim Ducks wanted to the New York Rangers to take on Cam Fowler in the Jacob Trouba trade, and it's highly likely Fowler wanted that as well.

"I heard that Anaheim wanted Fowler in this deal and I would have no doubt that Fowler wanted to be in this deal, I mean it's been out there he wants to be traded, he wants to play for a contender. Obviously at the end of the day they couldn't get it done and I think one of the reasons is New York wanted the flexibility for both this year and next, they have a ton of cap room this year and Fowler is at $6.5m next year, I don't think they wanted that."

Cam Fowler will have to wait longer for his opportunity to get to a team that is capable of making a run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Meanwhile, as if the Trouba trade wasn't already controversial enough, Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer has come out accusing the New York Rangers of "soft-tampering" after an article that stated the Rangers were eyeing Brady Tkachuk.

Rangers GM Chris Drury didn't take long to respond, calling the comments irresponsible, and asking the NHL's commissioner to look into them.

While the fallout from the Trouba trade continues, there's word the defenseman could be on the move again before trade deadline day on March 7, 2025.
