The Edmonton Oilers claimed a defenseman, the San Jose Sharks terminated a contract, and the Toronto Maple Leafs gave up on a fan-favorite in today's NHL waiver wire update.

In breaking news, the renowned insider Elliotte Friedman shared the daily update on the NHL waivers.

On X, Friedman revealed that the Edmonton Oilers claimed Alec Regula from the Boston Bruins, that the Toronto Maple Leafs placed Alex Nylander and Dakota Mermia on waivers, and the San Jose Sharks are terminating the contract of Valtteri Pulli.

Read his posts here:

Regula, a 24-year-old, 6-foot-4 defenseman, was placed on waivers by the Bruins yesterdayafter missing the whole start to the season due to an injury.

He could have a great impact on his organization in a few years, making him a great acquisition for the Oilers.

As for the Maple Leafs, the team surprised many fans by sending Alex Nylander back to the AHL. But after no points in five games in the NHL, he didn't do enough to impress the coaching staff and must now go through waivers before joining the Marlies.

Things are different in Dakota Mermis' case. He joined the Leafs this summer but had to undergo surgery in September and missed the start of the season. By sending him to the Marlies, the Leafs indicated that Mermis is ready to get back on the ice.

Finally, in Pulli's case, the San Jose Sharks revealed that the player wanted to pursue his hockey career in Europe, and both parties agreed to terminate his contract, making the waivers a formality.

The next update from the NHL waivers will be released tomorrow afternoon, at 2 pm. E.T.

Make sure to stay tuned to not miss anything about the developments from the NHL waiver wire.
