Philadelphia Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher confirmed to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic that Alain Vigneault will remain the team's head coach for the 2021-22 season.

«Absolutely. AV's our coach and we're excited to have he and his staff back next season,» Fletcher said. «We have a lot of work ahead of us to redefine our defensive game and our defensive structure. I can't think of a better group to do it than the group of experienced coaches that we have behind our bench right now.»

This comes as somewhat of a surprise given the fact that most expected the Flyers to be one of the better teams in the East Division this season, but instead finished sixth with a disappointing 25-23-8 record. Considering the New York Rangers – who finished with a better record than the Flyers yet had much less expectations heading into the season – fired their head coach in David Quinn days ago, Vigneault should feel very lucky here. His leash will likely be very short headed into next season.
