Washington Capitals Top Prospect Cam Allen Arrested, Faces Serious Charges
Surprising news was announced late last night, as Washington Capitals top prospect Cam Allen was arrested for a heinous crime.
Allen, a fifth-round pick of the Washington Capitals in 2023, was once considered among the premier prospects in that draft.
His rookie OHL season in 2021-22 was lauded, as he took the league by storm as a 16-year-old, leading to him being named captain of the Canadian U18 team.
Unfortunately, in his draft year, he struggled with the Guelph Storm, and somehow fell from a projected first-round lock, to a fifth-rounder.
Despite being a fifth-round pick, however, the Washington Capitals signed him to an entry-level contract quickly, and he is still currently under contract with the team.
It is entirely possible character had a part to do in the fall, as Cam Allen's NHL career may now be over before he ever began, as he was arrested for driving while under the influence.
Not only did he cause an accident, but he opted to flee the scene, leaving injured passengers in the car:
A London man was arrested yesterday morning after members of the London Police Service Uniformed Division responded to a running unoccupied vehicle that appeared to have been involved in a collision in the south end of the city.
On Saturday, February 8, 2025, at approximately 3:20 a.m., a citizen called 911 in relation to a single vehicle collision in the area of Colonel Talbot Road near Clayton Walk. Police were advised what appeared to be bl**d had been located on the driver's side door and leading away from the vehicle.
Officers arrived and located the vehicle. The driver was located and arrested a short distance away at a nearby address.
One of the passengers was transported by paramedic services to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
As a result of the investigation, Cameron Allen, 20, of London, is charged with the following offences:
Impaired operation of a conveyance; Impaired operation exceed blood alcohol concentration; Fail to remain; Fail to report accident; and, Novice driver- bl**d alcohol concentration above zero.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in London court on March 6, 2025, in relation to the charges.
This is a truly disgusting crime, and his actions will likely face consequences far worse than losing his hockey dreams. His team, the London Knights, who acquired Allen less than three months ago from the Guelph Storm for a whopping seven draft picks, made the following statement:
On Saturday, February 8, 2025, Cam Allen was charged by the London Police Service with offences related to impaired driving. The team takes this matter very seriously and are in the process of gathering all relevant information.
We have been in contact with the OHL and will handle this in accordance with both league and team conduct policies. Disciplinary action will be determined by the OHL.
In our discussions, we understand that Cam takes this matter very seriously and has assured us that he will fully cooperate with the court process. Cam understands the responsibility that comes with being a member of this organization and a representative of our community.
We will provide further updates as appropriate and appreciate the understanding of our fans and community.
Luckily nobody was seriously hurt in the incident, but it raises a broader message about responsibility and safety. For a player that was once seen as a near surefire NHLer, Allen has shown how quickly a dream can fade away.
