Despite a former request from Nick Robertson to be moved from the Leafs, he instead now wants to stay a member of the team as the March 7 Trade Deadline approaches.

Not long ago, Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson openly requested to be traded - a request that he's now reneged upon.

Still, it's natural to feel some uneasiness as the Trade Deadline approaches (March 7). Playing on an expiring deal, Robertson said he'll simply be going about his business as the Deadline draws near - but that his preference is to remain with Toronto.

I want to be here, so I'm fine. Yeah, I don't think about that stuff. I've been worried about my day off tomorrow, doing what I got to do.

Having found himself a healthy scratch on more than one occasion under new head coach Craig Berube, Robertson recently reached double digits in goals and said that the ups and downs he's experienced this year are really a "blessing in disguise".

Just how the season was going, it was kind of a blessing in disguise. Like, you got to have desperation. When it's desperate, I'll be physical. I'm wanting to get into the game, be impactful."

Last year, the most I played was 20 games (in a row), then I got scratched, shifting in and out. I hate that,» he continues. «So, I made a decision that I want to play every single game. Like I said, back to the desperation thing, I want to be in the lineup every game. I want to be an impactful player. And so far, it's been working.

Robertson, who can become a free agent on July 1, has an AAV (average annual value) of $875,000.

He has 16 points (11G, 5A) in 50 games this year.
