Today, the Detroit Red Wings issued an update on defensive prospect Jared McIsaac, who suffered an injury while on loan with HPK in Finland. McIsaac underwent successful surgery on his left shoulder last week, and will be out five to six months. He required the same procedure before the 2019-20 season, but on his right shoulder.

McIsaac, 20, was drafted in the second round, 36th overall in the 2018 NHL entry draft by the Detroit Red Wings. As mentioned, he was on loan with HPK in Finland's highest league, Liiga. He only played one game, recording no points, no penalty minutes, and was a +/-0.

The Truro, Nova Scotia native spent four years playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playing for the Halifax Mooseheads and Moncton Wildcats. In 205 regular season games, McIsaac recorded 160 points (33 G, 127 A), 248 penalty minutes, and was a +89. In 36 playoff games, he put up 20 points (2 G, 18 A), 48 penalty minutes, and was a +3.

He was named an alternate captain for the Mooseheads during the 2018-19 season. Halifax were named hosts for the 2019 Memorial Cup, where they reached the final, but lost to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies by a score of 4 to 2. In 4 games, McIsaac had 1 points (1 A), 4 penalty minutes, and was a +2.

Internationally, McIsaac has represented Canada on multiple occasions, most recently at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships. In 7 games, he had 4 points (1 G, 4 A), 8 penalty minutes, and was a +4 as Canada won the gold medal after defeating Russia in the final.

We would like to wish Jared a quick recovery, and hope to see him back on the ice as soon as he's back to being 100%.
