Montreal Canadiens prospect update

The Montreal Canadiens are blessed with one of the deepest prospect pools in the entire NHL. Many leagues across Europe have already begun their 2020-21 seasons, so let's take a look at where the Habs prospects currently stand.

Jacob Olofsson, 20, was drafted by the Canadiens in the second round, 56th overall in the 2018 NHL entry draft. He is currently playing with Skelleftea AIK in the Swedish Hockey League. In 12 games, Olofsson has 2 points (1 G, 1 A), 2 penalty minutes, and is a -2.

Jesse Ylonen, 21, was drafted in the second round, 35th overall in the 2018 NHL entry draft. Back in the spring he signed his three-year entry-level contract with Montreal. Ylonen is currently on loan with the Pelicans in Finland's top division, Liiga. In 11 games, he has 3 points (2 G, 1 A), 8 penalty minutes, and is a -4.

Joni Ikonen, 21, was drafted in the second round, 58th overall in the 2017 NHL entry draft. He suffered an injury earlier this month that will keep him out until mid-December at the earliest. He missed all of the 2019-20 season due to an injury. When he recovers, he will be playing for Ilves in Liiga.

Jan Mysak, 18, was drafted in the second round, 48th overall in the 2020 NHL entry draft. He is currently playing with HC Litvinov of the Czech Extraliga on loan from the Hamilton Bulldogs in the Ontario Hockey League. In 1 game he has 0 points, 0 penalty minutes, and is a -1. He has also played a few games with the Czech U-20 team in preparation for the upcoming 2021 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships. In 3 games he has 4 points (1 G, 3 A), 2 penalty minutes, and is a +1.

Alexander Gordin, 19, was drafted in the sixth round, 171st overall in the 2020 NHL entry draft. He has split time between SKA St. Petersburg (KHL), SKA-Neva St. Petersburg (VHL), and SKA-1946 St. Petersburg (MHL) so far during the 2020-21 season. In 1 KHL game, he has no points, no penalty minutes, and is a -1. In 6 VHL games, he's put up 2 points (2 G), 2 penalty minutes, and is a +/-0. In 8 MHL games, Gordin has 11 points (6 G, 5 A), 8 penalty minutes, and is a +/-0.

Mattias Norlinder, 20, was drafted in the third round, 64th overall in the 2019 NHL entry draft. He is currently playing with Frolunda in the Swedish Hockey League. In 13 games, he has 3 points (1 G, 2 A), 8 penalty minutes, and is a -2.

Hayden Verbeek, 23, was signed as an undrafted free agent in March of 2018. He is currently playing for HC Banska Bystrica in the Slovak Extraliga on loan from the Canadiens. In 4 games, he has 2 points (2 G), 0 penalty minutes, and is a +/-0.

Otto Leskinen, 23, was signed as an undrafted free agent in May of 2019. He is currently playing with KalPa in Liiga on loan from the Canadiens. Leskinen is off to a great start, putting up 5 points (1 G, 4 A), 6 penalty minutes, and is a +6 in 7 games.

With some NCAA teams beginning games in the middle of November, such as Cole Caufield's University of Wisconsin, we will have to come out with another update once those players and their teams get going.
