"I think really it's going to be a long shot if he comes back and plays," said Ben Hankinson on the podcast The Russo Hockey Show. "He hunts and fishes and he's got young kids and he's very active in their lives, he's got some anchorage here in Minneapolis that would make it a perfect fit for him to come back and play for the Wild […] but I think it's going to be a very long shot."
Minnesota Wild GM Bill Guerin did have a meeting with Byfuglien about the possibility of playing for his team in 2020-21. Hankinson reiterated that Byfuglien is happy in his retirement.
"He said ‘okay, I'll have surgery to feel better, have time to skate and get back playing' but then he just said ‘you know what, I think I'm just going to retire.'”
In 869 NH games, Byfuglien has recorded 525 points (177 goals, 348 assists). And, by the sounds of things, it appears that's how his career will end.
