Restricted free agent defenceman MacKenzie Weegar and his agent are none to pleased with the way contract negotiations have gone with the Florida Panthers on a possible extension.

"We're disappointed with how things have gone, to this point,” Matt Ebbs told The Fourth Period.

“It's been disappointing that they haven't really been able to get anything accomplished.”

Weegar made $1.6 million last season and he and his agent feel he is due for a bump in pay. His agent told The Fourth Period if something doesn't happen soon, he can see his client wearing a different sweater next season, despite the fact that he loves playing in Florida.

The Fourth Period states Winnipeg has shown significant interest in acquiring Weegar, while The Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, New Jersey Devils and Vancouver Canucks are among the teams that have also "poked around the last few weeks."

Weegar is noted as an excellent and reliable defensive defenceman with impressive five-on-five analytics.
