It appears likely that the Ottawa Senators and Connor Brown are going to be headed to arbitration, given how far apart the two sides currently are on contract negotiations.

Per TSN's Bruce Garrioch, who covers the Senators, the team is offering Brown a contract worth $2.25 million per year, while Brown is asking for $4.8 million. While one side seems to be coming in well too low and the other too high, another TSN reporter in Pierre LeBrun does not believe that to be the case when it comes to Brown's ask. LeBrun believes that Brown can use San Jose Sharks forward Kevin Labanc, who just signed a four-year deal at $4.725 million per season, as a fair comparable. He also went on to say he does not believe four years at $4.35 millions to be an unreasonable price.

While some may not agree with LeBrun, there is no doubt that Brown is a very important player for the Senators. In his first season with the team after being acquired in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs, he finished second in team scoring with 16 goals and 43 points in 71 games, trailing Brady Tkachuk by just one point. The 43 points were also a career high for the 26-year-old, who has played in 324 career NHL games.
