The NHL trade market is competitive this season, and many players will earn massive trade packages. One of these players may be the Chicago Blackhawks' Ryan Donato.

Donato is having a breakout year with the Blackhawks. He's on pace for 30 goals, and has crushed every career high possible.

Much of this can be attributed to his chemistry with Connor Bedard, with whom he's played nearly 300 minutes this season.

Unfortunately, the Chicago Blackhawks need to continue to pursue a rebuild, and Donato's $2 million salary makes him very easy to move, for assets likely unbecoming of a player of his calibre.

Last night, Elliotte Friedman confirmed he is likely on his way out of Chicago, and linked the Edmonton Oilers to him.

«Ryan Donato scored his 19th goal of the season tonight. He's had an excellent year and is a $2 million player, a UFA at the end of the year.

I think a few of the Canadian teams are looking around on him.

I think Edmonton is one of them and he is doing nothing to hurt his value. I think because of the price and the fact he's a UFA, he's going to be a pretty attractive piece.»

The Edmonton Oilers' cap situation is far from ideal, and Donato is among the most impactful additions a team can make for that little money, joining names like Montreal's Jake Evans who makes $1.7 million.

We will see if a trade comes to fruition here, but the Chicago Blackhawks are certainly happy with this signing.
