The Minnesota Wild and defenceman Carson Soucy are closing in on a contract extension, TSN's Frank Seravalli reports. The deal would carry an average annual value of $2.75 million per season.

According to Seravalli, more than a third of the NHL's teams had shown interest in the 6-foot-5 defender who registered 14 points (7 goals, 7 assists) this past season.

Soucy, a 2013 fifth-round pick, spent four seasons playing for the University of Minnesota-Duluth before jumping to the NHL. He registered 47 points (12 goals, 35 assists) in 147 games and added 216 penalty minutes.
