According to Curtis Pashelka of The Mercury News, the San Jose Sharks have placed five players on the NHL's COVID protocol list ahead of tonight's game versus the Winnipeg Jets.

The list of players has not yet been confirmed, but Kevin Kurz of The Athletic mentioned that head coach Bob Boughner is also on the list, and as a result John MacLean will take over head coaching duties on Saturday night.

Update: a total of seven players and two coaches were added to the Sharks list.

Meanwhile, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports tonight's game has been delayed by 30 minutes while the Sharks get their roster in order.

This is a frustrating situation for the Sharks, who have gotten off to a fairly good start this season. Through seven games, they own a 4-3-0 record which is good enough for third place in the Pacific Division. They will be in tough tonight against a very good Jets roster, especially given the fact they will be without five of their regular players.
