Following the announcement of his eight-game suspension, the numbers are finally out on how much Matt Rempe is losing for his nasty hit on Miro Heiskanen.

Matt Rempe is no stranger to brutality, taking his place in the spotlights for fighting almost immediately in his NHL career.

However, the towering New York Rangers forward has gone too far beyond the league's comfort zone after an outrageous move Friday night against the Dallas Stars.

During the game, Dallas defenseman Miro Heiskanen moved toward the wall to get the puck out of the zone before Rempe slammed him into the boards with elbow-to-neck contact.

"That's as boarding as boarding gets. He's just getting it out of the zone. He elbows him right in the back of the neck and plows him into the glass."

Rempe was ejected for the fourth time in his 22-game NHL career, but the NHL Department of Player Safety ruled to extend this sentence to an eight-game suspension.

While this is already a sizeable punishment for a rookie forward hoping to have a steady career, the financial consequences could prove worse.

Due to his history of overstepping the line, Rempe has been treated as a repeat offender, and will therefore lose $80,000 from his salary.

Given his massive pay loss, Matt Rempe's future role as a supersize enforcer for the New York Rangers could change, whether or not either party wants it.

New York sits comfortably in the bottom half of the NHL standings, having just lost to the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1.

With less guaranteed grit for several more games and a team near full panic mode, there are still questions about the Rangers' plans just ahead.
