Goaltender Vitek Vanecek's stay in Seattle was very short-lived. Just a week after being nabbed by the Kraken from Washington in the Seattle expansion draft, the Capitals have managed to get him back. The return is a 2023 second-round pick.

It's not a big surprise that Washington would want to get Vanecek back. He surprised a lot of people last season, his first in the NHL. After Ilya Samsonov spent time on the sidelines with COVID-19, Vanecek ended up starting 37 games, recording a 2.69 goals against average and a .908 save percentage, along with a record of 21-10-4.

Vanecek will likely get a lot of starts again in the upcoming season. Samsonov hasn't exactly cemented his position as the new number one goaltender in Washington after the departure of Braden Holtby. As you may recall, the Caps signed Henrik Lundqvist to a one-year deal before the beginning of last season, but then found out he wouldn't be able to play as he required surgery for a heart condition.
