The Edmonton Oilers and Carolina Hurricanes agreed to a trade on Wednesday morning, as Ethan Bear will be heading to Raleigh in exchange for Warren Foegele.

Bear, 24, spent the past two seasons with the Oilers and was a great surprise in 2019-20. Unfortunately, he struggled this past season with just eight points in 43 games and had some big time struggles in their playoff series versus the Winnipeg Jets. Hopefully a change of scenery is able to bring out his full potential as he has a chance to still become a very good NHL defenceman.

Foegele, 25, has spent the last three seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes. In 53 games last season he scored 10 goals and 20 points. While he is a fine player to have in your bottom-six, his potential is far less than Bear's, making this a somewhat questionable move yet again by Oilers general manager Ken Holland. It will be interesting to keep tabs on this trade going forward.

Meanwhile, Edmonton added another defenceman in free agency, signing Cody Ceci to a four year deal worth $3.25 million. Not sure that one will set well with a lot of Oilers fans.
