The Great 8 is returning to the Washington Capitals. Alexander Ovechkin has confirmed the news himself, Tweeting out a photo of him signing a new contract with the team.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, it's a five year deal that carries an annual cap hit of $9.5 million. The contract will expire when Ovechkin is 40 years old.

Ovi is currently 164 goals away from tying Wayne Gretzky's record for most goals in an NHL career. He would need an average of about 33 goals a season to get within striking distance of Gretzky's record. Given his track record, it is certainly not out of the questions, but we'll have to see if his age finally starts to catch up with him.
