According to St. Louis Blues reporter Jeremy Rutherford, the Seattle Kraken have a deal in place with forward Jaden Schwartz once free agency begins on Wednesday.

Schwartz, 29, has spent his entire nine-season career with the Blues, where he has been an underrated but very effective two-way forward. This past season, he managed eight goals and 21 points in 40 games, a down year by his standards and one that he will likely bounce back from. He is coming off of a five-year deal that carried a cap hit of $5.35 million.

Assuming this signing does indeed happen, it will mark the first big named player the Kraken have brought in outside of the expansion draft itself. While many questioned their approach at the expansion draft, it seems they may have simply just been keeping cap space open in order to sign some big free agents this offseason.
