Following the first game of the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off, Team Canada head coach Jon Cooper provided a major injury update on Vegas defenseman Shea Theodore.

Among the most anticipated times of the year for hockey fans, the 4 Nations Face-Off, is officially underway, with viewers flocking to the first game between Team Canada and Team Sweden.

Among the most excited to represent Canada was Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Shea Theodore, who was put on the official roster last December.

However, during the game, Theodore suffered a right arm injury after getting pushed into the glass from Team Sweden's Adrian Kempe, getting pulled off the ice after only playing for about six minutes.

Unfortunately, following medical examinations, Team Canada head coach Jon Cooper shared that the 29-year-old defenseman would not be able to return for the remainder of the tournament, calling it "a big blow."

Cooper also shared his thoughts on Theodore's situation, detailing his clear pride to be representing his country on the ice.

"What a kid, and he only got to play six minutes. It's heartbreaking for the kid. And he was the first one there at the door high fiving everybody when we came off. It's a tough one to swallow because you just know how much it means."

Though he may not have been allowed the opportunity to play the entire game, Theodore can go to bed knowing that his team still had his back, taking the victory 4-3 in overtime.

The Vegas Golden Knights have their next game after the conclusion of the tournament on Saturday, February 22nd against the Vancouver Canucks.

With no word on when he will be available, hopefully the extended break gives Theodore enough time to recover.
