NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has linked Buffalo Sabres forward Alex Tuch to the Boston Bruins ahead of the trade deadline.

This season has not exactly gone to plan for the Boston Bruins. With just 60 points through 57 games, the team is not currently in a playoff position.

That being said, they are much closer to making it than the Buffalo Sabres, who have had another terrible year.

Buffalo sits in dead last in the Atlantic with 49 points through 54 games.

As a result, it seems likely that Buffalo will once again be sellers at the trade deadline but the Bruins seem to be committed to pushing for the playoffs.

The Sabres have several players on expiring contracts that we might expect to see moved including Jordan Greenway and James Reimer, but one name that has been floated in trade rumors is Alex Tuch, who is signed for next season before becoming a UFA.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported recently that the Tampa Bay Lighting are one of several teams interested in the 28-year-old.

"If he's available, can see Tampa Bay lusting after Alex Tuch. They wouldn't be the only ones."

While Friedman did not reveal any other teams by name, the Hockey News writer Michael DeRosa hypothesizes that the Bruins could very well be one of those teams, noting the organization's positional need for another right-winger.

"However, when looking at the Bruins' roster, they certainly could use a forward like Tuch. It is no secret that one of the Bruins' weaknesses is at the second-line right wing position. They did not find a proper top-six winger replacement for Jake DeBrusk this off-season, and acquiring a player like Tuch would help fix that."

That being said, the Bruins need to prove that they can compete before Don Sweeney agrees to a major trade in which he is the buyer.

Tuch has been a solid contributor for the Sabres since joining the team after the Jack Eichel trade.

This season he has 19 goals and 43 points in 54 games, second on the team in both categories, only behind Tage Thompson.
