After a promising start to his professional career in 2023/24, Greek hockey player Dimitris Skotis has sadly passed away at the age of 28.

The hockey world has gone through some tragic times in recent years, and now, we have learned of the passing of another professional hockey player way too early.

According to a report from Puck Empire, Dimitris Skotis, a 28-year old goaltender from Greece has tragically passed away, and while there has been no official cause given for the passing, it remains incredibly sad and tragic.

Last season, Skotis played in his first season of professional hockey in the Athens Ice Hockey League, playing eight games between three teams, the Athens Cyclopes, Athens Minotaurs and the Athens Titans.

In those games, he was able to tally a 3-5-0 record, and while little details are given about the production he had on the ice, he was seemingly beloved by all those he played alongside.

We hear very little about the hockey league in Greece, as it is certainly still a growing sport in the country, but with players that were as liked on and off the ice as Skotis, it's hard not to be positive about the setup there.

Unfortunately as the sport in Greece grows, it will be without Skotis, who has hopefully inspired many to take up the sport of hockey, even if he was only able to play one full season of professional hockey.

We take this time to send our condolences to the friends, family and former teammates of Skotis, and hope that during this incredibly tough time, they can find some type of joy in the memories that he has left behind.
